Instead of the run-of-the-mill walking tours or guide books, a great way to get to know the city is by using City Walks cards. I received these as a Christmas gift from my mom and they have been one of my favorite ways to see London.
Each card provides a walking path with notable points on each walk along with some hidden gems that wouldn’t normally be in traditional guide books. These could include, but definitely aren’t limited to: restaurants, museums, stores and monuments. They each start and end at a tube station, making it easy to get to and from no matter where you may be. The London set contains 50 walks, though some may consist of two-parts.
The walks also span the city, not just the middle of it, but all over, so while some of them may place you in a bustling part of the city, another could take you further out, where it may be a little quieter. This can be a nice change of pace from the hectic inner-city. They also make London seem a little smaller than it actually is by being able to walk so many places. The size of London can be overwhelming for some people who aren’t used to being in such a large city. These cards make it just a little more manageable, especially if you are trying to see all of it.
Another great feature of these cards is that they are also offered for other major cities around the world such as Paris, New York and Barcelona.
